When we moved here from California, we had one question asked consistently:
Aren’t you going to miss the beach?
It was a question we really couldn’t answer, because we had never not lived by the ocean. We both grew up with beautiful memories of the beach and weren’t sure how we were going to feel about being away from it.
Well, I can confidently tell you now, I actually enjoy the lakes and rivers more!
There is something about jumping into cold water on a hot day that just fills me with joy! We continued our quest this weekend to try new swimming areas, and this one did not disappoint.
Bob Wentz Park is located off 620 and Comanche Trail. This park is on Lake Travis and has a rocky beach area for swimming, a boat launch, plenty of parking, covered picnic tables, and a pavilion that can be rented for events.
It costs $10 to get into the park per vehicle and is free for seniors over 62 and veterans with 60% disability or higher. You can also purchase an annual pass for all Travis County Parks for $100, which could definitely pay for itself if you plan on visiting often.
We went in the afternoon on the fourth of July weekend, so it was probably one of the busiest times. Parking was a little harder to come by, but it was not overly crowded on the actual beach! There were many families playing in the water, sitting under pop up shades, and enjoying yummy food.
The views were GORGEOUS! The water was so blue and the perfect temperature on a day that was 95+ degrees. The kids barely ever got out of the water, except when they were jumping off the dock.
Sadie did take a little break and played with the rocks. They have an unusual texture, with many holes on all sides of the rock. Sadie spent some time trying to fill in all the holes.
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we would like to try the grassy beach side next time. The ranger said that you need to show up early to get spots on that side.
My only complaint for this location is that the shore is rocky and difficult to walk on. You DEFINITELY need water shoes and chairs, there would be no way to relax on a blanket at this beach. But overall, it was a fun day and we plan on coming back.
